NSPRI IN CONJUNCTION WITH IWEI TRAINED 100 WOMEN ON FISH SMOKING

As one of the steps to reduce Postharvest loss in Agricultural system in Nigeria, NSPRI in conjunction with Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI) trained 100 women in Wudil Local Government Area in Kano State.
The objectives of the training include the following amongst others;

  1. Empowering women using NSPRI`s technology to smoke fish.
  2. To reduce drastically losses incurred by fish farmers and processors
  3. To introduce participants to various techniques involved in smoking
  4. To improve the quality of smoked fish for local and international market
  5. To impact participants with skills to reduce fish losses.

The training commenced on 10th March, 2015 and ended on 12th March, 2015. The 3-day training was practical intensive as the participants were grouped into various groups.

During the training, participants were shown how to use NSPRI contructed smoking Kiln by NSPRI Staff (Trainers).
The NSPRI smoking Kiln was found suitable by the women to bring solution to problem of smoking fish for domestic and international consumption.

The training was graced by Zonal Coordinators for Wudil and Gaya of the Agency for Mass Education and many other staff from neighbouring LGA of Kano State. The participants were highly pleased with the pattern of the training.
